When we started designing our home, we knew we wanted our lighting to create a mood, and add warmth and personality to every space.

We picked fixtures that felt cohesive as a whole and fit with the mix of modern and traditional farmhouse look we are going for! We want the space to feel cozy but also elegant.

Room-by-Room Lighting Selections

Kitchen

We added decorative lighting above our kitchen sink/ windows and it is one of our favorite parts about our kitchen. Very early on in the design process we knew we wanted swing arm style lighting in this area. However, we have Tilt and Turn style windows that open inwards and a sloped ceiling so spacing and clearance was a challenge. We ended up modifying the Progress Lighting Hinton Swing Arm Light to perfectly fit our space and we love them!

We installed pendant lighting above our island that complimented the lighting above the sink. The pendant lights are from Progress Lighting’s Singleton collection. They are simple but the shape of the glass feels traditional and timeless. We love using both the over-sink and pendant lights at night or early in the morning to create a relaxing, cozy feel!

Pantry

Our pantry is relatively small and we could’ve just used canless downlights in the space but we thought adding a fancy pendant would elevate the design. We positioned the pendant in front of our tall pantry cabinet so we chose a fixture that allowed us to adjust the height by removing/adding sections.

We selected this beautiful geometric shaped 9” light fixture called the Latham. It fits perfectly in the space and compliments the fixtures we used in the stairwell! We love the textured glass of the fixture and the muted lighting it provides.

Stairwell

We’re building a garage apartment and want the entrance from the garage into the apartment to feel more welcoming than your traditional garage staircase. We planned for sconces on the wall and a pendant at the top of the stairs from the beginning of our project.

The Elara sconces we picked compliment our dining fixture and the Latham pendant at the top of the stairs matches the pantry pendant but is one size larger (14”). We love that several of the fixtures we picked come in different sizes so that we can scale them to fit the space.

We added the Elara Linen Tapered Shade to the sconces to fit our traditional farmhouse style better.

Dining Area

Our 1200 sq ft. apartment is open-concept and you can see the kitchen from the dining area and vice versa. Making sure all of the light fixtures coordinate was top priority for us!

We really loved the look of chandeliers with shades but wanted to avoid any fixtures that might make the space look dated. This Elara 6-Light Chandelier from Progress Lighting is the perfect mix of modern and traditional! The fixture has multiple options for shades or you can install it without shades at all.

We again added the Elara Linen Tapered Shade. There are also options for a glass shade or a linen drum shade.

Bathroom

Most of the fixtures we picked have a champagne bronze finish and we decided to continue that into the bathroom because the faucet, shower head, and shower valve we picked are also champagne bronze.

We selected the Singleton 2 Light bathroom fixture. This fixture is in the same collection as the pendants in our kitchen. We love that Progress Lighting organizes their fixtures into collections, making it easy to select complimentary lighting.

We plan to mix hardware in this room and use black hardware on the vanity.

Bedrooms

We have 2 bedrooms in our apartment living space. We initially thought we wanted to have fans in both bedrooms but changed our mind after seeing this beautiful Loretta Chandelier at the International Builder Show! This fixture steals the show in our living space and is the fixture we get the most compliments on!

We love how it feels earthy and organic with the lily pad shades but still elegant! It perfectly compliments our limewash accent wall.

In the second bedroom, we chose the Trevina 52" Fan. We like that this fan has reversible fan blades so we could choose between medium cherry and walnut when installing.

Garage and Deck Lighting

Our outdoor sconces were the first fixtures we picked for our entire house build! We were looking for a lantern style fixture that felt modern but still had character.

We settled on the Progress Lighting Walcott 20" Sconce. The best part about this lighting is that it came in two different sizes so we could use next to the garage doors and entry doors.

Lighting Selections That Transform A Space

We are extremely happy with all of our lighting decisions and feel like together the fixtures create a cohesive design! They make our house feel like a home!
